There is nothing noteworthy here but the journey away.

This came into work today. I shortlisted it and displayed it on my cafe counter.
The back said something like “He is into BDSM. (Batman, Dragons, Star Wars, and Magic the Gathering).”
The first paragraph starts like this:

“I growl with frustration at my reflection in the mirror. My hair is fifty shades of messed up. Why is it so kinky and out of control? I need to stop sleeping with it wet. As I brush my long brown hair, the girl in the mirror brown eyes too big for her, stares back at me. Wait… my eyes are blue! It dawns on me that I haven’t been looking in the mirror—I’ve been staring at a poster of Kirsten Stewart for the past five minutes. My own hair is fine.”

my own hair is fine
oh my god where can i buy this

I have read this book and I assure you it is literary gold.

Okay. But let’s talk about Thor for a second. Thor does not get enough love and (Loki forgive me) he is honestly one of the best fucking characters Marvel has. And it’s shown so simply and so beautifully right here. He is so fucking chill about everything. Obviously, he doesn’t live in space, he lives in Asgard. But he knows everyone thinks he’s kinda like an alien, and he just goes along with it because why not? These humans are funny in their lack of understanding, but it’s an endearing kind of funny. Just like in the first movie, where Darcy tells him to smile so she can take a picture of him and he has no fucking clue what she’s doing or what a phone is and it could kill him for all he knows but he just fucking smiles and keeps eating his delicious pancakes because he’s just so chill like that. And if you look at his face in the first gif, it’s very serious and concentrated but the moment Darcy starts talking to him he loosens up and is like “Muscles? Ah, yes I suppose I am quite muscular. Oh, she’s inquiring about Asgard. But she called it space. She seems confused as to my origins, but it’s not of import. I like space, that’s a good name. I shall call it space too.”

And that little head nod he does back to her in the last gif. I’m dead. Deceased. Murdered from Thor cuteness

He’s just.. ugh, Thor doesn’t get enough appreciation. There are so many little things he does that go ignored but no more. His complete adorableness will be appreciated.

July 31st is both Jo Rowling’s birthday who. She shares this day with her famous literary hero, Harry Potter.

I was one of those people who grumbled and said I wasn’t going to get sucked into the hype that was Harry Potter. However, like everyone who considers the series a significant part of their life, I remember the first time I picked up my first book. It was a borrowed Sorcerer’s Stone. I was in high school, about two or three books behind everyone else. I began reading “The Boy Who Lived” when I was living in an abusive household and sleeping on the floor of my bedroom. The book laid on my “nightstand” — next to my blankets. Needless to say, Harry came into my life when I needed him the most.

Since then, I have felt more of an attachment to the books than I can put into words. I talk about what a Potterhead I am and I’m a total Harry Potter nerd — which is totally true — but I’m not unlike many fans who have a strong emotional connection to the series for one reason or another.

So today we need to say a thank you to Jo Rowling for creating a series that touched many and for her characters that brought forth such intense emotions, both good and bad and everything in between. She took us to another world while showing us aspects of our own. She showed us we wouldn’t even be alone in the magical world.

I thank you Miss Rowling and wish you — and Harry, of course — a beautiful, happy birthday.

We're not going to make it federally mandatory for people to get paid a wage they can actually live off of
The US Government:
If people want to make a living, they'll just have to work 16+ hours a day
The US Government:
And if their kids end up disenfranchised because of a lack of parental involvement, well that's not our problem
The US Government:
In fact, what is our problem is creating a system that will funnel these disenfranchised youth into our prison system so they can work for corporations (that promise us money) for damn near free
The US Government:
If they don't want to fall victim to this system, then they can seek higher education
The US Government:
Except such an education will be inaccessible to most disenfranchised people and skewed in favor of the financially stable and white people
The US Government:
And we're not going to make intervention programs like sex education and conflict resolution federally mandatory, because that's the parent's job
The US Government:
The parent who is working 16 hours a day
